Stay granted by any Court to automatically end upon expiry of six months

In Asian Resurfacing of Road Agency Pvt Ltd. & Another v. CBI [Miscellaneous Application No. 1577 of 2020 In Criminal Appeal Nos. 1375-1376 of 2013], a three-judge bench [Rohinton Fali Nariman, Navin Sinha and K.M. Joseph JJ.] of the Supreme Court vide order dated October 15, 2020, re-iterated that when a stay is granted by any Court, unless extended for good reason, it shall automatically expire at the end of six months. Upon expiry the court is required to set a date for trial and proceed.
