Legal Issues Seminar-General IP (SLIS-GIP) On ‘Whether Pharmaceutical Trademark Derived From Generic Name Can Be Exclusive To A Proprietor?’

A ‘Legal Issues Seminar – General IP’ (LIS-GP) was conducted by Anurathna Mathivanan, Associate on ‘Whether Pharmaceutical Trademarks derived from Generic Names can be Exclusive to a Proprietor?’. The seminar analyzed the relevant statutory provisions that restrict monopolization of generic names in pharmaceutical trademarks. The seminar delved into various judicial decisions that have examined the contours of inventiveness of pharmaceutical marks that incorporate generic drug names. The seminar also covered varying views taken by the Courts while granting interim injunction in cases where the pharmaceutical marks incorporate generic drug names. The session concluded with an interesting observation to determine whether there can be a threshold for exclusive use of pharmaceutical trademarks that are derived from generic names.

ALG’s Movie Club Celebrates Pride Month, Discusses “Other People” Directed By Chris Kelly

To conclude the Pride Month celebration, ALG’s cinephiles came together in person and virtually, to discuss Chris Kelly’s comedy-drama “Other People”. In this riveting movie, the protagonist deals with the impending death of his mother and struggles in a conservative and unwelcoming environment as a gay man. The members discussed how queer individuals are forced to navigate through monumental events in life in a different manner, as has been depicted in the movie. Through the discussion, members gained some insight into the struggles that one faces as a person who is queer.

To continue learning and understanding the community, we recommend picking a movie from the vast repository of movies made by queer people about queer people.
