Sneha Tandon Attended Global Science, Innovation and Research Summit organized by CII

Sneha Tandon attended the Global Science, Innovation and Research Summit organized by CII at IIT Delhi on 2nd May, 2023. The summit highlighted the importance of fostering investment in R&D by private sector and need for collaborative efforts by Government, Industry and Academia to unleash India’s growth potential. The session titled “Advancing women in STEM” focused on the identification of challenges and the opportunities required to improve the representation of women in technical disciplines of Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In the session titled “Fostering R&D Investment: The Winning Leap”, growing need to adapt to usage of technology even at grassroots level was stressed upon.

New General IP Interns For May 2023

General IP Interns – Vidushi Dixit, Sriradha Rai Choudhuri, Mansi Mishra and Rohan Singh have commenced their General IP Internship with the firm’s law practice.

We hope their stay in the firm during the 4 week period of their internship will be mutually enriching and that the firm and they will learn exciting things from each other!

Practice Work Shop (PWS) On “Whether Control Digital Lending Is detrimental To Copyright Owners’ Rights?”

During last week’s PWS session, Shreyak Patnaik (Trainee Associate) led a discussion on “Whether Controlled Digital Lending is detrimental to copyright owners’ rights?”. The session commenced with a brief discussion on what Controlled Digital Lending (CDL) entails and its possible impact on the functioning of libraries in the digital realm. The members discussed and debated on the impact of sale of physical books viz-a-viz licensing of e-books on owners of the copyright. The members also discussed whether licensing of e-books would have detrimental effects in the publishing industry and whether digital lending should function solely through a license-based model.

The session ended with members brainstorming the most suitable model of CDL that would ensure a balance between public interest in accessing works and a copyright owners’ right to drive revenue from their copyrighted works.

ALG Principal Sneha Tandon will be at the Global Science, Research, and Innovation Summit on May 2, 2023. This year’s Summit is aimed at encouraging national and industry investment in R&D, fostering Industry-Academia-Research collaboration; and encouraging Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
