POSH Training sessions conducted by Samreen Iboo Sait for the members of ALG

At ALG, we believe that creating a safer workplace begins with open discourse for all the members of the firm to reach out and ask queries, share thoughts, raise concerns, and listen to each other. Recently, ALG’s Samreen Iboo Sait (Senior Associate, PoSH Trainer and Coordinator of the Diversity & Inclusion Section at ALG) conducted training on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace. The two-day training session was attended by the Attorneys and the Administrative Staff of the firm. The training began with understanding what could be sexual harassment and the effect of our biases on such behavior. The session was a process of learning and unlearning through activities and games. The members also discussed the nuances of ALG’s gender-neutral harassment policy and shared their diverse thoughts, experiences and suggestions to make work places safer and more inclusive.

A great initiative by CGPTDM and DPIIT in bring together various IP Stakeholders including IP Practitioners & Creators, IP Office Officials, Hon. Judges, and holding debates and panel discussions on improving the IP ecosystem in India.

Practice Work Shop (PWS) On “Whether Remote Sensing Data Should Be Commercially Exploited?”

During last week’s PWS Session, Yash Raj, Trainee Associate, led a discussion on “Whether Remote Sensing Data Should Be Commercially Exploited?” The session saw an engaging  discussion on providing IP protection to the data obtained from remote sensing of a State and the political and socio-economic impact of such  protection. The discussion explored the benefits of commercializing remote sensing data and whether it is feasible to protect such data through copyright. The session concluded with the members sharing their innovative recommendations to maintain a balance of interests of all the stakeholders.

Legal Issues Seminar-General IP (LIS-GIP) On “Is The Threshold For Distinctiveness For Colour Marks Higher Than For Conventional Marks?”

A ‘Legal Issues Seminar- General IP’ (LIS-GIP) was conducted by Tarini Sharma, Trainee Associate on “Is the Threshold for Distinctiveness for Colour Marks Higher than for Conventional Marks?”. The seminar explored relevant provisions under the Trade Marks Act, 1999, and the view taken by the courts in respect of the circumstances when colour marks can be said to have acquired distinctiveness in order to be afforded trademark protection. The session concluded with an interesting discussion on the protection of colour marks as part of trade dress and whether there is a need for a demarcation in the standard for protection of single colour marks as against combination of colour marks.
