Legal Issues Seminar-General IP (LIS-GIP) On “Examples Of Party(ies) To Different Types Of IP Law Suits That Are Proper But Not Necessary”

A ‘Legal Issues Seminar-General IP’ (LIS-GIP) was conducted by Sannidhi Mahapatra, Associate, on “Examples of Party(ies) to Different Types of IP Law Suits that are Proper but not Necessary ”. The seminar delved into the concepts of ‘necessary’ and ‘proper’ parties in a suit and explored the different circumstances that warrant impleadment of a proper party, as well as the consequence of non-joinder of such parties to a lawsuit. The seminar specifically looked into the impleadmeant of proper parties through various judicial pronouncements. The session concluded with an interesting discussion on whether a defendant would be able to implead parties as a matter of right.

Practice Work Shop (PWS) On “Whether The Metaverse Would Change IP Policies Adopted By Brands?”

During last week’s Practice Work Shop (PWS) Session, Samreen Iboo Sait, Associate, led a discussion on whether the metaverse would change IP policies adopted by brands. The session witnessed an engrossing discussion on the interface of IP with the metaverse. The session explored possible reasons for brands to subscribe to the metaverse ecosystem and the implications it would have on their existing IP enforcement policies. The session concluded with some interesting exchange of views on the ways we can modify existing policies and how brands could adapt to the uncharted multi-metaverse ecosystem.

ALG’s Book & Movie Club Discusses ‘Wonder’ Directed By Stephen Chbosky

Last Saturday, ALG’s movie buffs got together virtually to discuss Stephen Chbosky’s heart-warming comedy-drama, ‘Wonder’. A lively discussion ensued as the members discussed the narrative structure, key takeaways, pop culture references, their favourite characters, and even the clichés!

The movie also inspired the members to reflect upon their school days and the various dilemmas that children face while navigating through school. Needless to say, the team had a ‘wonder’-full session!

The seminar delved into the concepts of ‘necessary’ and ‘proper’ parties in a suit and explored the different circumstances that warrant impleadment of a necessary party, as well as the consequence of non-joinder of such parties to a lawsuit. The session concluded with an interesting discussion on the kinds of evidences that could be presented to a court of law towards impleadment of ‘necessary’ or ‘proper’ parties.

During last week’s Practice Work Shop (PWS) Session, Sannidhi Mahapatra, Associate, led a discussion on whether career prospects differ for domestic IP practice as opposed to international IP practice. The session witnessed an engrossing discussion on the issues faced by domestic attorneys, particularly in light of India being a nation with budding IP awareness. The session further explored the idea of pursuing IP in foreign jurisdictions as well as rendering services to international clients. The session concluded with some interesting exchange of views on the ways we can further develop our national IP system to make domestic IP practice an even more popular career option.
