Recorded Music Performance Limited Registered as a Copyright Society

Recorded Music Performance Limited (“RMPL”) has been registered as copyright society under section 33(3) of the Copyright Act, 1957 by the Registrar of Copyrights with effect from June 18, 2021. RMPL has been permitted to commence and carry on the copyright business in sound recording works.

Emerging Technologies Lead in India’s IP Creation: NASSCOM Report

A NASSCOM Report indicates that India’s share of emerging technologies being protected in the jurisdiction has been steadily increasing. Notably, the report also mentions Artificial Intelligence (AI) inventions accounting for 6% of the emerging technology patents in the country. The Report also observed an increase in the number of patents filed in the US by companies domiciled in India. Fields like Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing also counted in the growth.

ASCI Finalizes Guidelines for Influencer Advertising on Digital Media

The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), has nowreleased its final guidelines for “Influencer advertising on digital media”. The guidelines will come into effect from June 14, 2021. 

Earlier in February, 2021, ASCI released the draft guidelines for “Influencer advertising on digital media” for stakeholder consultation and based on the feedback now released the final draft.

CGPDTM Notifies Further Extension of Statutory Deadlines Owing to the Covid-19 Pandemic

The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) has issued a Public Notice (dated May 21, 2021) in light of the Supreme Court’s restoration of its Order dated March 23, 2020 on extension of statutory deadlines owing to the pandemic. The Notice states that all statutory deadlines falling after March 15, 2020 shall once again stand extended till further orders in order to minimise hardship to the public.

Government Notifies the Draft Digital Courts Vision & Roadmap for Comments For Phase III

The e-Committee of the Supreme Court, requested for inputs, feedback and suggestions from the stakeholders on its draft Digital Courts Vision & Roadmap for its Phase III of the e-Courts Project. The last date for providing any inputs/suggestion/recommendation is April 23, 2021. The Phase III of the e-Courts project aims to provide a judicial system that is more accessible, efficient, and equitable for every individual who seeks justice, or is part of the delivery of justice, in India.
