Stakeholder Meetings To Be Held By IPO In Kolkata And Chennai For Draft Guidelines For Computer Related Inventions

The Office of the CGPDTM issued a public notice regarding stakeholder meetings to discuss the representations received on the Draft Guidelines for Computer Related Inventions. The first meeting will be held in Kolkata on May 21, 2025 at 4:30 PM at Bouddhik Sampada Bhawan, CP-2 Sector V, Salt Lake City. The second meeting will be held in Chennai on May 28, 2025 at 12 PM at Bouddhik Sampada Bhawan, G.S.T. Road, Guindy. The participants must confirm their attendance by sending an email to cgoffice.in@gov.in.

Cgpdtm Introduces New Copyright Registration Certificate Format And Secure Online Filing

To mark World Copyright Day 2025, the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) introduced key updates in the copyright filing process to make it more transparent, efficient and secure. The updates included new formats for Copyright Registration Certificate, Application and Registration numbers along with multi-factor authentication (OTP-based login) for secure filings.

We are yet to see the user experience feedback from IP Practitioners to these updates.

India Collaborates With WIPO To Build IP Intelligence

WIPO and the CGPDTM have signed a Letter of Intent to collaborate on building IP analytics capacity in India. This partnership aims to enhance data-driven insights for better policymaking, R&D investment, innovation strategies across startups, academia, and industry and to align IP strategies with the evolving markets.

This comes as a promising step towards more dynamic, strategic and innovation-driven IP ecosystem in India.

Government Of Kerala Releases Draft IPR Policy 2025 To Reform IP Administration

The Government of Kerala has recently released the Draft IPR and TK Policy of Kerala, 2025 aimed at reforming the State’s IP governance framework after 17 years. The policy proposes the establishment of a Traditional Knowledge Authority, a Docketing System, and the launch of ‘Mission IPR’ to oversee IP governance in the state. The policy also envisions the creation of a statutory IPR Academy and mandatory IPR Cells and IP Management Committees in academic and research institutions for improving the administration of IP assets and its commercialization.

CGPDTM Introduces ‘Gone To Court’ Status For TM Applications

The Office of the Controller General Of Patents, Designs And Trade Marks (CGPDTM) has introduced a new status update in its trademark records – “Gone to Court”. This important addition alerts users to the initiation of judicial proceedings related to a particular trademark application. It serves as a valuable indicator for applicants, legal representatives, and other stakeholders monitoring the progress and legal status of a trademark.
