India has established an eight-member expert panel to assess whether the Copyright Act of 1957 sufficiently addresses legal challenges posed by artificial intelligence. Set up by the commerce ministry, the panel includes IP lawyers, government officials, and industry leaders. It aims to analyze AI-related copyright issues and recommend policy changes. This move comes amid global scrutiny, including lawsuits against AI firms like OpenAI over the use of copyrighted material.
