The op-ed explores the evolving landscape of YouTube copyright enforcement in India, with a focus on the practical challenges faced by content creators under the platform’s “three-strike” policy. The op-ed highlights recent incidents where creators have encountered copyright strikes for using short clips and review material, and examines the tension between platform procedures and statutory protections under Indian copyright law such as fair dealing and the de minimis doctrine. The op-ed also outlines actionable guidance on counter-notifications, documentation, and strategic engagement with platforms to uphold creators’ rights.

Firm Submission (FS): ALG Tenders Its Submission On The Draft Promotion And Regulation Of Online Gaming Rules, 2025, 

ALG, through its Senior Associate Designee Devesh Kapoor and Associate Shivanshi Gupta, has submitted suggestions to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on the Draft Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2025, aiming to regulate framework for online games. Our key suggestions included narrowing the definition of “material change” to only those monetization modifications that could affect a game’s classification which shall ensure the Online Gaming Authority includes independent technical experts. The suggestions also included allowing users and not just service providers to seek determinations, excluding mere access or subscription, provision of a 90-day inquiry period from the date of the Authority’s formal order, etc. These suggestions aim to improve procedural efficiency, transparency, and convenience to regulate the framework for online gaming in the country.

Firm Submission (FS): ALG Tenders Its Submission On The Draft Trade Marks Guidelines

ALG, through its Senior Associate Designee Uroosa Shahzad and Associate Vanshika Gupta, has submitted suggestions to the Trade Marks Registry on the Draft TM Guidelines aiming to bring some practical and procedural ease to practitioners and the IP industry. Our key suggestions included enhanced e-filing system with unrestricted head usage and clear category descriptions, clear timelines for filing written submissions, reducing the ambiguity of thresholds of evidence in pre-publication hearings and lack of direction in filing adjournment requests for such hearings when attend;  a voluntary settlement and deferment option for consensual dispute resolution, etc. These suggestions aim to improve procedural efficiency, transparency, and convenience in the trademark registration process.

Firm Submission (FS): ALG Tenders Its Comments On The E-Commerce Principles And Guidelines For Self-Governance

ALG, through Associates Uroosa Shahzad and Arundathi Krishnadas, has submitted Comments in response to the invitation for feedback on the E-Commerce Principles and Guidelines for Self-Governance which were published by the Bureau of Indian Standards in January 2025.
