A Legal Issues Seminar’ (LIS) was conducted by Sannidhi Mahapatra, Trainee Associate, on issues such as related to Geographical Indications & Appellations of Origin, Associated & Series Trademark and Shape marks & Features.

The seminar particularly touched upon whether GI can be owned by private enterprises, whether fluid trademarks can be registrable as a series trademark and whether the remedy of passing off as a shape Trademark can be availed in case of design infringement.

Practice Work Shop (PWS) on ‘Are IP Commons a boon or bane to Creativity?’

Sri Lekha Rayapati, Associate, lead an engaging discussion on the notion of IP Commons, its history and purpose during last week’s Practice Work Shop (PWS) session. The discussion, inter alia, also delved into the the necessity of expanding Intellectual Commons as well as the interplay between Commons and Creativity.

A Special Legal Issues Seminar (SLIS) was conducted by Intern, Manvee Kumar Saidha, on ‘Copyrightability of APIs vis-a-vis the Merger Doctrine’. The Seminar touched upon whether Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) can be protected under the Copyright law, in the backdrop of the case of Google v. Oracle and the Merger Doctrine as interpreted by the Indian and American Courts.
