ALG’s Shilpa Margaret Kurian Serves As A Judge At The Intra-Qualifier Round For The 1st Amity National Trial Advocacy Tournament 2021 At Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad.

ALG’s Shilpa Margaret Kurian recently served as a judge at the intra-qualifier rounds (Knockout Rounds) for the 1st Amity National Trial Advocacy Tournament 2021 organized by the Moot Court Association of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad. The event saw participation of the 6 teams that had qualified the memorial round. The rounds involved detailed legal arguments by the students on issues related to criminal law and concluded with the selection of the top-scoring team that will proceed to represent the Institution at the 1st Amity National Trial Advocacy Tournament 2021.

Special Legal Issues Seminar- General IP’ (SLIS-GP) On ‘CPC Order VII Rule 11 – Dismissal-in-limine Of Different Types Of IP Law Suits’

A ‘Special Legal Issues Seminar- General IP’ (SLIS-GP) was conducted by Samreen Iboo Sait, Associate, on the dismissal-in-limine of different types of IP lawsuits under Order VII Rule 11 of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908. The seminar delved into the application of Order VII and Rule 11 to rejection of plaints and the relevant provisions thereunder. The seminar also looked into various case laws, including the recent case of Dahiben v. Arvindbhai Kalyanji Bhanusali, [(2020) 7 SCC 366] in which the Apex Court elaborately analyzed the provisions under this Order. The session concluded with an insightful discussion on what would constitute an ideal stage for rejection of a plaint in a lawsuit.

ALG Organizes ‘Catch-Up’ Welcome Interaction For New Members

ALG attorneys participated in a casual ‘Catch-up virtual call’ to welcome ALG’s new members Samreen Iboo Sait and Shilpa Margaret Kurian. Mindful of how interactions with a comparatively large group in the first few months of joining a new workplace can sometimes get overwhelming, this interaction was limited to a smaller group of attorneys – the (slightly) older ones welcoming the new lot. The broad smiles captured are perhaps the photograph equivalent of “enough said”!

Practice Work Shop (PWS) On “Whether IP Can Be Used As A Tool In Raising Awareness About And Promoting DBA Artists And Creators?”

During last week’s Practice Work Shop (PWS) Session, Krithika Muthuraman, Associate, lead a discussion on whether IP could be used as a tool in promoting artists and creators belonging to DBA communities. The session witnessed an engaging discussion on the need and significance of promoting representation of artists from these communities in the creative space. The team also delved into the potential benefit of facilitation schemes and enforcing moral rights, by looking into some examples from contemporary media.
