New Patent Final Year & Pre-Final Year Interns For September 2021

Patent Interns – Gaurvi Arora, Siddhesh Birajdar (Final Year) and Arjun Rajesh A (Pre-Final Year) have commenced their Patent Internship with the firm’s law practice.

Sharing Of Reflections (SoR) Session Of ALG’s August 2021 General IP Interns

General IP Interns – Anjuri Saxena (Final Year Intern); Prachi Sehgal, Krisha Meswani, Darshin Parekh and Nehal Gupta (Pre-Final Year Interns) have successfully completed their Internship at ALG. At the end of their internship, they obliged us with their thoughts and ideas during the Sharing of Reflections (SoR) sessions. Their presence enriched the firm while they interned here. Practice Work Shop (PWS) On ‘Will Evolution Of Artificial Intelligence Make Trademark Law Obsolete?’

During last week’s Practice Work Shop (PWS) Session, Sunidhi Bansal, Associate, lead a discussion on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the trademark law. The session witnessed an engrossing discussion on how AI has and could potentially change the way consumers shop, and looked into whether the current test of likelihood of confusion would still apply in the light of the rapid growth of AI.

Legal Issues Seminar-General IP (LIS-GIP) On “Can The NGT Take Suo Motu Cognizance Of Cases?”

A ‘Legal Issues Seminar-General IP’ (LIS-GIP) was conducted by Nayantara Malhotra, Senior Associate, on “Can the NGT take Suo Motu Cognizance of Cases?”. The seminar delved into the proactive role played by the NGT in environment related matters. The seminar specifically looked into the statutory provisions pertaining to the NGT’s jurisdiction and powers, orders passed by the NGT and courts on whether the NGT can take up suo motu cognizance of cases, and discussed the need for clarity on the issue by either the Supreme Court or the Legislature. The session concluded with some interesting questions and discussion among the team, including on whether the NGT is justified in taking up suo motu cognizance of cases.

Practice Work Shop (PWS) on ‘Does Enforcement of Rights Against Online Infringement Override the Territorial Nature of Trademark Law?’

During last week’s Practice Work Shop (PWS) Session, Samreen Iboo Sait, Associate, lead a discussion on whether enforcing trademark rights against online infringement overrides the territorial limitation of trademarks law. The session witnessed an engrossing discussion on the rising trend of online infringement, interpretation of how jurisdiction is availed, the practical difficulties in enforcement of decrees against online infringers, and the implications of territorial limitations of law in a virtual world.
